At the age of 11, he began making his own movies with the family video camera.  Although the films were intended to be serious, action-adventure stories, his friends and schoolmates found the movies hilarious.  Every year his grade school teachers would take an afternoon off in late June to screen Cowan\rquote s newest movies for his entire grade.  The laughter increased when one year Cowan actually made a funny movie that was intended to be funny.  The title of the film }{\i\fs22 The Perils of Bob Papschmear}{\fs22  refers to a character played by Cowan, who was continually getting himself killed in increasingly bizarre ways.  Cowan was now in grade 9 and when he submitted the film to a student film contest, he won.  He continued to goof off throughout high school during which time he wrote and directed portions of his grade 13 drama class\rquote  revue, }{\i\fs22 9 Essential Nutrients.\par }\pard \nowidctlpar\faauto\rin0\lin0\itap0 {\i\fs22 \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\tx560\tx1120\tx1680\tx2240\tx2800\tx3360\tx3920\tx4480\tx5040\tx5600\tx6160\tx6720\faauto\rin0\lin0\itap0 {\fs22 Cowan continued his acting, enrolling in Drama at Bishop\rquote s University, a liberal arts school in Lennoxville, Quebec.  Constantly cast as the \ldblquote comic relief\rdblquote  in serious plays like }{\i\fs22 Our Country\rquote s Good}{\fs22 , and }{\i\fs22 The Crucible}{\fs22 , it was his turn as Estragon in Beckett\rquote s}{\i\fs22  Waiting for Godot}{\fs22  that garnered him the most attention.  Cowan concedes that the most important element of his experience at University was \ldblquote meeting Bryan Reid, and Art Maughan.\rdblquote   These guys would later become part of TRUTHHORSE, a film-making comedy collective, and brainchild of Cowan\rquote s, which formed when he \ldblquote just basically brought together five of my funniest friends.\rdblquote \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\faauto\rin0\lin0\itap0 {\fs22 \par After University, but before TRUTHHORSE began, Cowan immersed himself in Toronto\rquote s film industry, becoming a production assistant on feature films, television series and music videos.  He later became a member of the Director\rquote s Guild of Canada, and has worked as an Assistant Director, Location Manager and in the Art Department on various projects.  Missing the writing and performance aspects of his jobs, Cowan took a break from paying movie gigs and started work on TRUTHHORSE.  To date TRUTHHORSE has produced 6 episodes for Rogers Cable, and 6 new episodes for The Comedy Network. Kassirer first got a taste of acting in plays and musicals put on at summer camps and at elementary school.  During his final years of high school, Kassirer learned much about acting presence and persona through the role of Students\rquote  Council President at one of Toronto\rquote s largest high schools, as well as through the roles of frontman and supporting musician in a series of musical bands. \par  \par Kassirer has been an artist for as long as he can remember. He has logged tens of thousands of hours exploring oils, acrylics, inks, pastels, pencils and photography. After finishing a B.A. in Political Science (McGill University), Kassirer turned his artistic attention to the digital realm. He is a self-taught designer, with a formal training in copywriting and branding (Media Copywriting, Humber College).  His design sensibility, drawing on an old knowledge of artistic media and photography, as well as his more recent writing training in corporate communications and advertising, bears a stylistic emphasis on photography and texture, taking much from the minimalism of modern design, but with an eye to expressing an older time when art had more to do with the physical - natural textures, cultural artifacts you could hold in your hand. There, Maughan was active both behind-the-scenes and in front of the audience where he took part in weekly assembly short sketches and full blown school productions. Maughan carried this love of acting to Bishop's University where he took part in 4 full productions as an actor: Waiting for Godot, Our Country's Good, A Mid-Summer's Night Dream, and The Crucible. When not acting, Maughan directed short plays for school festivals, stage-managed productions, and coordinated The New Plays Festival.\par \par Between University, Maughan attended The Vancouver Film School where he directed and edited short films on 16mm and video. It was here that Maughan began pursuing his true love: Film Making. More specifically, it was at The Vancouver Film School where Maughan discovered the discipline of editing - which would become the early focus of his career.\par \par After graduating from Bishop's, Maughan returned to theatre, landing his first job at the Piggery Theatre in North Hatley as an assistant director under Greg Tuck. The opportunity meant a professional environment working with serious talent, talent from whom much was learned. However, the world of film & television took over Maughan's ambitions and he moved to Toronto to pursue a career in the industry. Mills gained experience on stage while studying at McGill University. Aside from this invaluable practical experience, Mills also received formal training in Acting, Voice, Textual Analysis and Direction. Mills wrote his Thesis on issues surrounding post-Holocaust performances of Shakespeare\rquote s contentious "The Merchant of Venice."\par \par Having graduated with First Class Honours, Mills returned to his native Toronto to pursue his creative career. Focusing his energies on pushing himself as an actor and writer, he soon formed Truthhorse with five others who have similar passions and ambitions. As Truthhorse grew into a self-contained production unit, Mills developed his skills as a director, videographer and editor. Drawing on this experience, Mills co-founded Studio M Digital Productions, a Toronto-based production company. \par \par As Mills continues to pursue his acting and writing career, he has seen success with televised appearances on CBC ("The Red Green Show" and "Zed"), Toronto 1 ("The Toronto Show") and Rogers ("Truthhorse" and "Daytime"). In 2003, the group obtained a level of pseudo-sublime cult status among their fans, paving the way to a six-episode sketch-comedy show for Rogers Television, which has lead to being picked up by the Comedy Network to produce a fresh television series that is a blend of sketch and mockumentary. \par \par Reid has played an integral role in establishing Truthhorse\rquote s unique style through his original music. In 2000, Reid was awarded the prestigious FACTOR grant, which paved the way to working with the Barenaked Ladies\rquote  producer, Walter Sobczak, and touring across Canada with his then rock-based band, Bootleg.\par \par In addition to writing music and scripts for Truthhorse, Reid also acts throughout. Reid credits the training through his theatre degree (Bishop\rquote s University) for giving him a firm introduction to comedic acting. Reid has also done commercial voice work in the United States and has worked as an actor for such Canadian mainstays as The Toronto Show and The Red Green Show.\par \par Reid is also heavily involved in the production and post-production side of Truthhorse. Priding himself as a director and cameraman he is also one of three full-time editors working on Truthhorse's television episodes.
